A UKIP parliamentary candidate has been found guilty of manslaughter after a workman died whilst working within his property.
Peter Clements was buried alive and covered in tonnes of earth whilst working on his pool. A jury found millionaire Keith Crawford guilty of manslaughter after he refused to supply the appropriate safety measures and chose to ignore safety warnings.
Mr Clements died despite raising concerns about the trench and, when health and safety issues were highlighted to him, Crawford refused to pay the extra money to ensure the safety of the workmen.
Crawford tried to use the fact that the workman was a ‘sub-contractor’ and not an ’employee’ when he died therefore he was not legally responsible.
Crawford was found guilty of manslaughter and, in addition, guilty of breaking health and safety laws.
